The topic of my paragraph is about marriage and how it has changed from the Victorian Era all the way till now. Such as the expectations, judgments, and how married couples treated each other when they were married. The first topic that I will be talking about is when Algernon tells Jack marriage is a business instead of pleasure. Next, I will be talking about when Lady Bracknell says "An engagement should come on a young girl as a surprise, pleasant, or unpleasant. Lastly, I will be talking about when Algernon says "Divorces are made in heaven."
All of those different quotes have to do with different opinions on marriage and how much differently people expected marriage to be. Like for example marriage is more of a pleasure than a business if you think about how people would look at it. They had different things that were expected of them and were needed from them in order to have a marriage happen.

The Importance of Being Earnest
When we first started doing to Victorian Era questions project i was really confused and wasn't sure on what to do. But then i started to get into the whole thing once i got how to do it. Eventually i have questions popping into my head that i could use. When you told us that we were going to read the book The Importance of Being Earnest in a way i was excited since i learned so much from doing the questions for it. The research really helped me on how their life was back then and how many different stereotypes or rules that were compared to the current days.
When i started to read the book it helped me a lot more from the questions to understand the book. If we wouldn't have had the whole assignment of doing the questions then i wouldn't know the whole story behind some of the people in the story or how different their life was compared to now. The one thing that i find interesting about this book is how they always seem to put down marriage like when Lady Bracknell says "I have always been of opinion that a man who desires to get married should know everything or nothing" on page 24, I think that she is saying that the ladies may want to be either smarter then them or them be smarter than the men are. Marriage has changed since the Victorian Era.

New Years Resolution
For the year of 2010 my resolution would be to get A's or B's in all of my classes and also start to hang out with more of my friends that i had last year, since we have kind of gone different ways since highschool. I believe that i can change these things in my life by the end of the year and hope that they do happen!
One of my goals that i am going to be working on right away and hope to have by the end of 2010 is to do the splits. I have always wanted to do them but have never been able too. So i figured that i should finally be able to do them soon. This leads to having to stretch almost every single night until i can finally do it. May 2010 begin!

Poetry Out Loud
When Amanda Fernandez performs Unknown Girl in the Maternity Ward by Anne Sexton i thought to myself wow this is really good! I think that she did really goo in the drama category and was a good loud speaker who didnt have a problem being up on stage saying what she was saying. Which is a good thing because then it makes her a better speaker and she sounds more confident in her self.
The way she perfeormed the poem hepled me understand that the poem was about a women who did not know much about her baby or the babies father, since the father had left them. When the women cries you can really tell that she cares about her baby alot! And i liked the way Amanda would be happy one minute while reading the poem but then she would change to happy. It kept you more interested and it was a good way to tell a poem like this.

Motif
In the beginning of the year i did not even know what motif is! I was thinking to myself wow i feel really dumb. When i did the summer assignment i sort of got what it meant when we had to look it up and give examples but it took me a while. So when i found out that we were doing motif for To Kill a Mockingbird i didn't know what i was going to do since i didn't understand it.
To Kill a Mockingbird really helped me understand motif since you explained it a little more than it was to me before. I got to have examples and do it myself so it helped me really understand the concept of motif. The motif in To Kill a Mockingbird would be "Its a sin to kill a mockingbird" There is a quote in the book that says "Well it'd be sort of like killing a mockingbird, wouldn't it?" Which is referring to the possible bad things that could happen in a situation.

Life Lesson
One thing that my parents have always told me in always communicate, meaning that you should tell what you are doing and when so they know what is going on. If you don't tell some of these things then your parents may get worried because you didn't tell them what time you were going to be back from Oregon with your friend.
I thought of this as something to use because i have had it happen to me recently. I went to a swim meet and my mom just assumed that it was a home meet at evergreen, when it was in Seattle. So then when she was texting me she flipped out on me because i didn't exactly tell her where it was because she just assumed. So after that she always tells me to communicate more so it doesn't happen anymore.
